![]() Towards dusk they light fire pits to enable you to enjoy the views a little longer as the sun goes down. ![]() Good job we weren't checking out that morning to go to the airport! The beach area is made up of pebbles and you can swim from the jetty, albeit it will be a tad bracing! They had staff available there and they were attentive in bringing drinks. One morning our room safe decided not to work and as the manager had the skeleton key at home we had to borrow money from reception and repay them later. Not what you expect for this class of hotel and price. The glass roof for the pool could do with a good clean as it was getting a bit green. ![]() Also with all the glass it is a bit disappointing that the windows are not the cleanest with more than a few cobwebs. When we stayed there was no one obvious in charge and it showed a little with the service. We thought the food was good and with a decent choice. The bar isn't manned and you have to ask at reception if you want a drink. The level of service is a bit haphazard but it is delivered in a friendly and helpful manner. The lounge and bar are an extension of reception which meant it didn't really feel like a place to linger unless you had a seat in front of the fire. When we were there, other than the first day, it was a bit wet and cold and the use of hard and dull surfaces made it feel a little unwelcoming until the fires were lit. The use of concrete and glass makes for an unexpected combination in this very traditional picturesque spot in Chile. The hotel design is interesting with a lot of features. The wardrobe space is limited but I imagine most guests will live out of a suitcase for a few nights. They are well laid out and make the best use of the space. The bedrooms have stunning views of Lake Llanquihue and Orsono Volcano. With this quandary I have gone for the middle as the views, interesting design and food make it better than "Average" despite some shortcomings. I can understand why some rate it "Average" and some rate it "Excellent". That said l was disappointed with one of our two dinners, enough that we considered, fortunately did not do so as the second dinner was excellent, driving back to town the second night. When you only have thirty guests or so and are located 25 minutes or so from town it makes it hard to support more than a handful of dinner options. The things that bring it down a bit are in large part explained by the size the the place, a tiny gym and somewhat limited dinning options. I don't rate many hotels as excellent but was very tempted to do so in this case. The staff were friendly and helpful, especially in the dinning room. We utilized the kayaks and bikes both of which were in excellent condition and ate dinner in the hotel dinning room both nights. Location is great if you have a car but if not your 25K from Puerto Varas and it's very good restaurants. Our room was the nicest we had in our two weeks in Chile. Rooms are spacious and offer great views of the lake and volcano, at least when not obscured by fog and clouds. One of three hotels we stayed at in the Puerto Varas area and hands down the best.
